CHAPTER 1. What Is The Colorado Plateau?
The Colorado Plateau is a geological wonderland that encompasses 130,000 square miles (337,000 square kilometers) centered around the Four Corners area of the American West and within the states of Colorado, New Mexico, Arizona and Utah. It ranges in elevation from slightly over 2,000 feet (600 meters) along the Colorado River in the Grand Canyon to over 12,000 feet (3,660 meters) in the Henry and La Sal Mountains of southeastern Utah.
More than 90 percent of the plateau lands are drained by the Colorado River and its major tributaries, the Little Colorado, the San Juan and the Green rivers.Ten Native American tribes claim the Colorado Plateau as their homeland and share the arid region with a multitude of unique and scarce high desert plants and animals. This land is characterized by high mountains, rugged, eroded plateaus, river gorges, volcanic peaks, sandstone arches, spires and hoodoos and includes the splendor of the Grand Canyon, Arches National Park, Canyon Lands National Park, Zion’s National Park, and Bryce Canyon National Park and Lake Powell.

CHAPTER 2. Lake Powell
Glen Canyon National Recreation Area encompasses more than 1.25 million acres in northern Arizona and southeastern Utah. The park staff consults regularly with the Hopi Tribe, Kaibab Paiute Tribe, Navajo Nation, Paiute Indian Tribe of Utah, Pueblo of Zuni, San Juan Southern Paiute, and Ute Mountain Ute in areas of mutual interest. Lake Powell is great for hiking, sight seeing, swimming, boating, fishing, and house boats. Iv’e taken a house boat out on Lake Powell numerous times.
Lake Powell is fairly affordable, considering what you want to do. Houseboats can be expensive to rent. But, hiking, camping on the beach, paddle boarding and swimming is affordable. It has become one of my favorite places on earth. It’s looks like the Grand Canyon flooded with water and created a safe place for everyone. The last trip I made to Lake Powell, I drew challenges, from a hat. The challenge read “Find a stranger to fly over Lake Powell with you.” I’ll leave a link to the video of me completing that challenge.
