The Best Affordable Beach Vacation

Most people think of Hawaii for having the best beaches in the world. They’re not wrong; however, Hawaii is incredibly expensive. In parts of Mexico, the water is more turquoise, the beaches are incredibly white, and it’s cheap.

If you buy an airline ticket to Hawaii a year in advance, they average $800. If you buy an airline ticket for Hawaii later, they average over $1,000. Hotels, Resorts, and Airbnb’s on the Hawaiian islands are incredible expensive. Restaurants and groceries in Hawaii are more expensive than all 50 states. All the restaurants in Hawaii around the resorts and beaches cost on average $75 a person, per meal. Mexico is cheaper and prettier.

You can find a plane ticket to Cancun, Mexico on average for $350 per person. The resorts range from $60-$180 a night, depending on quality. I paid $98 a night for a 5-star resort in Cancun. The restaurants are American franchises, like Outback Steak House. They aren’t expensive, like they are in the United States. They are still more expensive than other authentic restaurants in the area. Mexico has a lot of great Mexican restaurants for super cheap. One American dollar is equivalent to 18 pesos. The currency exchange rate is always changing though. You can buy a taco and a beer for $1.50USD.

I’ve been to many beaches around the world. Hawaii is beautiful and worth a visit. But, I like to save money and find Cancun better. The water is more turquoise in Cancun, with white sand beaches. The beaches in Hawaii are orange sand, with a dark blue ocean. Preferably I’d fly to Cancun for a Caribbean feel for a quarter of the price over Hawaii.
